Turn Order

In a 2- or 3-player game, turn order proceeds clockwise after the starting player has taken their turn. In a 4-player game, turns must alternate between the 2 teams, and all players must have taken a turn before anyone takes another turn.

Dice and Tokens

Black Legion dice and red Commander dice can be reduced from 1 to 0 (i.e., by paying for an ability on a permanent card, or by an opponent’s action). When this happens, remove the die and the connected token from your battlefield.

You can get dice back, such as with the “Strategize” Command card. However, effects which allow you to raise the value of an existing die cannot be used on empty spots (i.e. where there are no dice).

Whenever a die is moved from one spot to another, a connected token will move with the die. Red Commander dice can only occupy red squares, and black Legion dice can only occupy black squares.

Each die can only have 1 token at any given time. You may never have more than 3 Legion tokens and 3 Commandertokens, and you may not have more than 2 matching types of Legion and Commander tokens. (e.g. You may have 2 [Warlord] tokens, but you may not have 3 [Warlord] tokens.)

Your blue General die cannot be reduced from 1 to 0, and can never be removed from your battlefield. If your blue General die is at 1, you can no longer spend these points for actions.

In the rare case that you complete 2 red squares, you gain 2 red Commander dice and 2 tokens of your choice (i.e. Commander and/or Legion tokens).

Gaining and Rolling Dice

All dice gained are taken from the general supply, unless otherwise stated on a card ability or bonus. After gaining a die of any color, roll it, along with any other dice acquired at the same time. Place these dice on their corresponding squares (i.e. red squares for Commander dice, and black squares for Legion dice). If you are required to roll a die for a morale check, card ability, or other similar purpose, use a die from the general supply, not one from your battlefield. After rolling, return the die to the general supply.

Component Maximums for Dice and Tokens

The limit for red Commander dice in your battlefield is 5. Immediately after you gain and roll a 6th red Commander die, choose one of the existing Commander dice—or the one you just rolled—and remove it. The limit for black Legion dice in your battlefield is 10. Immediately after you gain and roll an 11th black Legion die, you must pick one (either already on the battlefield or the one you just rolled) and remove it.

You may only ever have 2 tokens of the same kind at a time. If you gain a third copy of a token, you must pick 1 (i.e. the one you just gained or one already on the battlefield) and remove it.

Discarded Cards

When an Army card or an Objective card is discarded, it is put on the bottom of the corresponding draw pile, face down. When a Command card is discarded, it is placed face up on top of the discard pile next to the Command card deck.

Legion Size

Normal, legions only span 2 cards. When they are completed, the one black Legion die belonging to it is rolled immediately.

Big legions span 3 cards, and massive legions span 4 or more cards. When you add a card to a Legion but don’t finish it during your Army phase, you don’t roll the black Legion dice for it.

When you finish a big or massive legion during your Army phase, roll all of the black Legion dice belonging to it at the same time and place them as you wish. After that, you get a bonus from the Battle Reward card.

  • Example: If you complete a big legion (i.e. 3 cards), you create two black squares so you roll two black Legiondice. After rolling, these Legion dice are placed on the black squares just created.

Battle Reward Cards

After finishing a big or massive legion (i.e. spanning 3 or more cards), roll and place any newly acquired dice on the Army cards you just finished and gain a token if you qualify to do so.

You then get a bonus from the Battle Reward card. The bonus depends on the color of the legion just finished. So, if you finish a red legion in your battlefield, you get the red bonus shown on the Battle Reward card. When you finish a legion that matches your starting color (i.e. the one with the blue General die on it), you may choose any bonus on the Battle Reward card. There are five different rewards, one for each color.

Your opponent must then take a morale check.

Morale Checks

When you finish a big or massive legion (3 or more cards), the renown of your elite forces may have demoralized your opponent’s troops. After rolling and placing your newly acquired Legion dice, and after you pick a bonus from the Battle card, all of your opponents do a morale check.

The player performing a morale check rolls a die (pick any die not in use in a battlefield). If the result is equal to or less than the number of red Commander dice in their battlefield, the morale check is passed. Otherwise, they lose a black Legion die from their battlefield.

For every big army card (e.g. starting card) your opponent has a -1 on the moral check roll. Take in consideration some starting cards have a +1 on moral checks.

Example: Taylor has completed a big grey legion (3 cards total). After she rolls her two newly acquired black Legion dice and picks a bonus from the Battle Reward card, her opponent, Antonio, must perform a morale check.

Antonio has 3 red Commander dice in his battlefield. Due to the fact that he has no +1 on his starting card he rolls a die and wants to get a result of 1 or 2. Unfortunately, he rolls a 6, which is more than the number of Commander dice he has (which is 3) -1 of the Taylors big army card. Antonio now picks one of his black Legion dice in his battlefield and removes it, along with any token that was connected to it. If he had rolled a 2 or less, nothing would have happened.

Example: Taylor has completed a big grey legion (3 cards total). After she rolls her two newly acquired black Legion dice and picks a bonus from the Battle Reward card, her opponent, Antonio, must perform a morale check.

Antonio has 3 red Commander dice in his battlefield. He rolls a die and wants to get a result of 1, 2, or 3. Unfortunately, he rolls a 6, which is more than the number of Commander dice he has (which is 3). Antonio now picks one of his black Legion dice in his battlefield and removes it, along with any token that was connected to it. If he had rolled a 3 or less, nothing would have happened. If Taylor had completed a massive legion, she would have been the one to choose which black Legion die was removed.

Coins

Coins can be gained via the Requisition action, through Battle Reward card bonuses, and various other effects. They are mostly used to pay for the effects on permanent cards and are spent instead of the values on red Commander dice and black Legion dice. When spending coins instead of dice values, you still need to have the required token in your battlefield, even if you don’t use the die on top of it to pay for the effect. The cost of such an action can be split between coins and a single die, but never between 2 dice.
